What are lips fillers?

Lips fillers are injections that contouring and add volume to your lips. They’re a type of dermal filler.

Lips fillers consist of synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA) — HA is a natural substance in your body. There are many different brands of lip fillers, including Juvederm®, Restylane® and Perlane®.

Who gets lip fillers?

Getting lip fillers is a personal decision. Pursuing your wants and desires for your body can be empowering.

To be considered for lip fillers, you should:

  • Be in good physical health.
  • Have realistic expectations.
  • Not have an active oral infection, including canker sores or cold sores.

Many people who get lip fillers want to increase the size of their lips. You might want to enlarge the size of your lips for many reasons, including:

  • Restoring a previous lip size. As you age, your lips may get smaller or thinner, your philtrum (the groove between your upper lip and septum) may get longer and flatter and the distance between the corners of your mouth (intercommissural distance) may increase.
  • Correcting the shape of your lips. It’s common for your lips to be different sizes or shapes (asymmetrical).
  • Smoothing wrinkles. When you smile or laugh, wrinkles sometimes develop on the sides of your mouth.
  • Boosting confidence. Lip fillers can help improve your self-esteem and body image.

Anatomy of the Lips

The lips consist of three separate tissue zones, which are the white lip, the vermillion (red lip), and the vermillion border. In cross-section, the lips are made up of skin, subcutaneous fat, submucosal fat, circumferential muscle orbicularis, and oral mucosa. Specialized dry mucosa makes up the free end of the lips.

Where are fillers used?

Common areas of filler application include the nasolabial folds (the grooves between the upper lip and mouth and the cheek), the deep folds around the corner of the mouth and chin, brow frown lines as well as acne scars and other deep scars. Filler may also be used in the lips to give them a fuller appearance and to smooth the fine lines in the lip area.

How long do fillers last?

Fillers are gradually broken down and absorbed by the body over 6-24 months. How long filler lasts also depends on its location of placement. For example, filler placed in the lips typically lasts a shorter duration due to the dynamic nature of the lips. Reapplication of filler prior to complete dissipation of the product has been shown to enhance the lasting effect.

Who is a candidate for filler?

Many patients stand to benefit from the use of fillers. Individuals who have wrinkles, lines and aging skin are great candidates.

What is involved in a filler appointment?

Filler injection is a relatively simple, non-surgical technique using an ultra-fine needle. The fillers used at The Private Clinic Medical & Aesthetic Centre in Dubai can be injected on the same day as your consultation. The area to be improved is cleaned after which topical or local anesthetic may be applied. An ultra-fine needle is then used to inject the filler in a precise fashion. Ice packs or cool compresses may be used to reduce discomfort and swelling.

What are the side effects of filler injection?

Temporary swelling and redness at the injection site are the most common side effects after the treatment. Bruising is less frequent. These side effects can be minimized by closely following instructions and by using cooling compresses as directed. Important social events should not be planned for several days immediately after injection due to the possibility of bruising.

What are some alternative treatments?

Skin resurfacing with laser, dermabrasion, chemical peel or Radiofrequency treatments may help decrease the appearance of fine wrinkles and depressions. Deep wrinkles of the face may be improved by anti-aging face procedures such as facelift or forehead lift. Depressed scars may be surgically excised.

What are the Top Lip Filler Techniques?

1. Classic Lips Filler Technique

The classic lip shape helps to create a lip that comes with a heart shape. In classic lips, the cupid’s bow maintains a complete and nice figure in the upper and lower lips. It tapers out the edges and gives excellent projections from the side. With this, the lips look very hydrated and juicy. The overall result is a fuller-bodied look and a plumped effect.

Classic lip filler techniques give different results depending on the different types of faces and the level of rejuvenation required. For instance, you may have a pretty strong side profile and projections from your chin and face. In this case, you would generally need a filler treatment that keeps your lips in harmony with the rest of your face.

2. Russian Lips Filler Technique

The Russian lip filler technique is an aesthetic lip augmentation method with increased popularity over the years. The current trend in the beauty world is to have lips with a more natural look after filler treatments. It is often referred to as a “less is more” technique because the amount of filler it uses is more moderate than most other methods. Thus, it is the most sought-after method by patients.

In this method, the lip filler helps to emphasize the cupid’s bow shape, followed by an enhancement of the lower lip. The overall aim of this technique is to boost the height of the lips. This way, the distance between the chin and the base of the lip becomes shortened to ensure proper rejuvenation.
